Pregnancy Manual Lymphatic Drainage
-
Pregnancy changes so much in the body, including lymphatic flow. The increase in blood volume and fluid on the lymphatic system during pregnancy and compression from the growing uterus places a heavier load on the lymphatic vessels that can lead to swelling and discomfort.
Hormonal shifts and immune system changes can also play their part in disrupting lymphatic flow.
-
Although pregnancy massage in general can have a positive impact on the lymphatics, MLD specifically can be more beneficial in reducing localised swelling in areas such as the legs, arms and hands.
Pregnancy MLD uses gentle, light, slow lymphatic drainage techniques that can safely support fluid retention and discomfort.
-
There are a few reasons why MLD may not be appropriate for you in your pregnancy. These include:
Pre-eclampsia
Gestational Hypertension
Varicose veins
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Active infections / fever
Severe cardiac or kidney conditions
Vaginal bleeding or placenta praevia
A gentle superficial treatment using techniques that improve the flow of lymph in the body to reduce swelling, fluid retention, discomfort and promote an overall sense of well being and relaxation.
Using a variety of methods such as Vodder and Godoy & Godoy, this safe treatment will give you to much needed lift your body needs to make you feel lighter and brighter.
We adopt a semi-reclined position on the couch and the main lymph areas are activated before lymph can be encouraged into these pathways. This deeply relaxing and restorative therapy is what so many pregnant bodies are craving! Be assured this is provided by a midwife and holistic therapist trained in MLD.
