Women’s Manual Lymphatic Drainage
with Pre & Post Operative Options
-
Primarily, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is used to promote optimal functioning of the lymphatic vessels, facilitating the removal of metabolic waste, toxins, bacteria, excess water, etc from tissues via the lymphatic system.
MLD has a powerful cleansing, detoxifying and immunological effect on the body giving it the prevention of and recovery from illness it needs.
Unlike the circulatory system, which it works closely with, the lymphatic system does not have a pump. If the pathways become congested or damaged, then fluids and toxins build up, oxygenation and nourishment is reduced, leading to sluggishness, bloating, inflammation, reduced immunity and even chronic disease.

Lymph is located just millimeters under the skin. Using the Vodder technique, this traditional treatment is actually performed without oils, using only the hands in order to have the friction required to stretch and release the skin, enabling a pumping effect to move the stagnant lymph, redirecting it to healthy lymph nodes.
MLD is wonderfully relaxing and many people go into a restorative state of rest and relaxation due to its very slow and gentle, circular, rhythmic movements. We always begin with deep diaphragmatic breathing and start in the neck area to clear the ‘terminus’. Please note that we will also work with lymph around the breast tissue, the axillary and groin area, and the abdomen.

Using the Vodder technique, traditional MLD involves very light, rhythmic, pumping movements and stretching of the skin to redirect the flow of lymph in the body, aiding drainage of waste, toxins, excess fluid, detoxifying the body. It also has a very relaxing calming effect on the nervous system, relieving stress and lowering cortisol. This underestimated therapy has a powerful cleansing, anti-inflammatory effect, giving the immune system a reset and boost.

Pre and Post Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage
For pre and post op, I use the Godoy & Godoy method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage which is an advanced version, incorporating a more dynamic approach of targeted techniques. Whatever the need for your surgery, MLD is especially good for enhancing the body’s ability to detoxify, reducing fluid retention and swelling, alleviating pain, improving the overall immune response and ability to recover quicker and more effectively from injury or surgery.
For pre and post op care, it is crucial to prioritise the body’s healing process, and planning a series of pre and post op MLD sessions is highly recommended by many surgeons to enhance the outcomes, ensuring a smooth and speedy recovery from surgery.
Aesthetic surgeries MLD is ideal for include:
Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Liposuction
Breast Augmentation or lift (Mastopexy)
Breast Reduction
‘Mummy makeover’
Arm or thigh lift
Face lift
Nose job (Rhinoplasty)
Procedures such as Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) will require a frequent plan of around 10 sessions+, preferably with 2 of them being pre op, so please feel free to contact me to discuss and plan in good time prior to your surgery or ask me any questions.
